SCADA Logic

In a SCADA application it often is necessary to calculate logical operations or calculate comprehensive interdependences. For this the HMI/SCADA software zenon offers the Mathematics driver and the VBA integration. If the limits of the Mathematics driver are reached or the user is afraid of programming in VBA, zenon from COPA-DATA GmbH offers another very easy solution.

The Soft PLC “STRATON” as a head control running in the background takes over the complex calculation and control tasks. STRATON has no backlash on the zenon Runtime and thus offers more safety for the application. The integration of STRATON into zenon leads to a SCADA system with integrated PLC logic which is called SCADA logic.

Instead of learning the VBA syntax in STRATON the familiar IEC 61131-3 programming languages FDB, LD, IL, ST and SFC can be used. A cyclic execution guarantees a valid process image. Of course several STRATON instances can run simultaneously to share the tasks in a structured way.

Of course not only calculations and controls can be realized in the SCADA Logic. STRATON offers a variety of function blocks for the communication, e.g. TCP/IP or direct serial connection. With that communication-leaks to zenon can be removed. Additionally STRATON offers various possibilities to store data in files (e.g. XML).

A further scope of the SCADA Logic lies in simulation of processes of PLCs in the field. With that variance comparison can be done. Deviations can be detected and for instance displayed as alarm in zenon.

The known availability of zenon is available with the SCADA Logic too. The zenon redundancy works together with the STRATON redundancy thus to receive a high available package.
