zenon prepares Adelholzener for the future (Germany)

The name Adelholzener stands for top quality and continuous innovation. That is why the company is always improving its bottling systems and uses only the most modern production technology. For operating and monitoring its production systems, Adelholzener relies on zenon, the HMI/SCADA software package from COPA-DATA.

Adelholzener employs about 420 people, producing and selling healing water, mineral water and soft drinks under the brand names “Adelholzener” and “Active O2”. The water comes from the depths of the Bavarian Alps – taken from a mineral water source that lies about 140 meters below a nature reserve. Adelholzener uses only the most modern technology for its bottling process to ensure a constantly high level of quality and hygiene. In cooperation with equipment providers such as Krones, Adelholzener is able to meet both quality and environmental regulations.

Adelholzener produces their products on a total of nine bottling systems. Three of them are used for bottling with reusable PET bottles, three with disposable PET bottles and the other three for reusable glass bottles. With these systems Adelholzener can produce about 240 000 bottles per hour. Since 2004 two bottle sorting systems sort reusable PET bottles. The computer-controlled, automatic bottle sorting plant allows for the reuse of eco-friendly PET bottles. The PET bottles are filled in clean rooms under aseptic (that is ‘germ free’) conditions.

Adelholzener has used zenon from COPA-DATA for their bottling systems for many years. Before this they did not have a visualization system – just some simple applications based on the DOS operating system. Isolated solutions dominated the past and serial communication between systems was the standard. Herbert Schrobenhauser is responsible for control and monitoring technology at Adelholzener explains, “Our goal was to get a more holistic view on our systems and machines and to allow for an intuitive and flexible handling of machines. We regard COPA-DATA as the technology leader for visualization solutions. We rely on zenon the Windows-based HMI/SCADA system for all our applications.”
