20 years of COPA-DATA Germany

Our German office is celebrating its 20th company anniversary. Together, we can look back on two decades of growth within the automation sector – a time in which technology has developed at breakneck speed.

Ever since our company’s founding, we have set the pace for digitalization in production automation. With its well-established automotive industry and a host of innovative companies within the mechanical engineering and plant engineering sectors, the German market plays a significant role in our growth strategy.

“In terms of technological development, Germany is by far one of the front runners. As the home of numerous global players and successful medium-sized enterprises, the country constitutes a very important market for us. I’m extremely pleased that COPA-DATA Germany has now been helping us to make our customers’ lives that bit easier for the past 20 years,” says Thomas Punzenberger, founder and CEO of COPA-DATA.

A key market for the Group

Twelve years after Thomas Punzenberger founded COPA-DATA in the Austrian city of Salzburg in 1987, the German subsidiary was established in the Munich municipality of Ottobrunn. The initial focus was on the automotive industry with its highly automated manufacturing processes. Pharmaceuticals and food & beverage, both non-cyclical industries, were later added to the company’s portfolio. In recent years, non-factory applications have also been growing in importance, such as solutions for the establishment of smart cities.

Ever-growing success

“Twenty years ago, we set out with the ambitious goal of cementing the zenon brand within the German manufacturing industry. In particular, we wanted to attract the big DAX companies,” says Jürgen Schrödel, Managing Director of COPA-DATA Germany. Today, numerous DAX and EURO STOXX companies help make up the company’s portfolio of longstanding customers.

Alongside the Ottobrunn site, further offices have been established in Ludwigshafen and Cologne. Our comprehensive sales and support network means that we can guarantee personalized customer support on-site. In 2018, COPA-DATA Germany experienced its most successful year in business to date, with a turnover of 12.6 million euros and growth of 30 percent.

According to COPA-DATA Germany’s Managing Director Jürgen Schrödel, the company’s staff play a crucial role in its success: “For many years now, we’ve benefited from the experience of a wide range of experts. Our employees are constantly engaging with new tasks and concepts in order to provide our customers with the best possible support now and in the future.”
