IEC 61850 KEMA Certification
zenon IEC 61850 Driver Enhancements
IEC 61850 KEMA Certification and optional functions
It was relatively easy to obtain certification for our IEC 61850 Client Driver, as we fulfill the mandatory function requirements. But, the market also makes demands for optional functions. In this document I would like to take a look at the enhancements which have recently been implemented in the zenon Product Family.
Using ISO 8650-1 in Wind Energy projects to become a highly available system
An interesting new parameter was required for the implementation of wind energy projects. In this profession there are many devices which require an authentification according to ISO 8650-1 (see IEC 62351-4, ACSE authentification) without which an IEC 61850 cannot be started. A Client can therefore only connect using the Server password. Therefore, a sort of protection from unwanted Client connections is guaranteed.
Certainly a well accepted connection is one which is done via a second alternative IP Address. Therefore one manages to switch over to a second connection should the primary connection breakdown. This is especially interesting when zenon operates with communication knots of the same level which offer the same data but via a second component. Naturally, this mechanism can be used with zenon redundancy and with redundant network cards. One therefore builds a highly available HMI/SCADA system.
Trigger options of reports
The enhancements in the area of trigger options of reports has less to do with availability but more with the individuality of the equipment manufacturer. Other than the usual possibilities of the SCL based configuration of the server or the simultaneous activation of all trigger options, these can now be chosen individually. This is especially useful for this area when equipment is lacking all settings, but allows for certain trigger options.
zenon Logic and straton IEC 61850 Server
Interesting too are the enhancements which have been made to the IEC 61850 Server of zenon Logic or straton. Amongst other things, it is now possible to describe the Time Quality Byte (the eighth of the eight *t-attribute bytes). With this one can dynamically change the Time Quality of the application. If the application determines that for e.g. the time synchronization is not functioning, then it communicates a TRUE on the Bit 2 in the Time Quality. The Clients are thereby informed that the data time stamps are faulty. Additionally new function blocks were developed in the Time Quality whereby the slightly complicated time format of IEC 61850 can be easily calculated. Therefore the application can add a different time to the data object than the current valid one. This could be of significance, for example, when programming a protocol converter which should take over the time information of the receipt telegram.
Other than these innovations around the Time (.t) attribute, the types were also improved. Now attributes from the array type can be handled. Therefore entire value lists such as fulcrums of trend curves or harmonics can be transported.
Enhancement of GOOSE
The GOOSE implementation has also seen some change. The standard optional configurable definition of the repetition rate (min/max times) of GOOSE messages is now taken over by the SCL, (ICD, CID).
Energy automation with zenon HMI/SCADA
These were a couple of detailed areas which have changed in respect to the IEC 61850 and the zenon Product Family. This change process is not complete with this, but is still continuing. This is how, together with our customers, we stay at the cutting edge and can take on the future demands of energy automation.
