Growing wind portfolios, rising complexity: COPA-DATA to showcase Unified Wind Farm SCADA at WindEnergy Hamburg 2026

More wind energy does not simply mean more turbines. As portfolios expand, assets diversify and margins tighten, operational complexity increases, along with the pressure to maintain availability, efficiency and security.
Europe faces the parallel task of expanding and modernizing its wind energy infrastructure. According to WindEurope, 151 GW of new wind power capacity is expected to be installed across Europe between 2026 and 2030 . At the same time, aging wind farms are reaching the end of their original support and service periods. The challenge is therefore twofold: adding new capacity while keeping existing assets productive through continued operation, retrofit or repowering.

Against this backdrop, COPA-DATA will present Unified Wind Farm SCADA at WindEnergy Hamburg 2026, taking place September 22–25. Built on the integrated zenon software platform, the vendor-independent solution provides centralized monitoring, control, alarm management, historization and reporting across turbines, substations, battery storage and balance-of-plant systems, from individual wind farms to entire portfolios.
Wind farm operators manage turbines, substations, storage and auxiliary assets from multiple manufacturers and technology generations. Separate HMIs, data structures and communication methods fragment operational data and alarms, slowing diagnostics and increasing training and support requirements. Retrofit and repowering projects add further integration pressure, while offshore conditions, growing OT security requirements and scarce specialist expertise make failures harder and more costly to address.
Replacing established system landscapes in their entirety is neither necessary nor economically viable for every project. Unified Wind Farm SCADA consolidates turbines, substations, storage and balance-of-plant systems in a single operational platform while allowing existing assets to remain in use. New components can be integrated step by step without tying the operator to a single manufacturer’s ecosystem.
